Civcraft is an experiment for communities, political ideologies, debate and discussion. Our backstory is based on history, not fiction. We’re forming a new direction for game-play, not just about surviving the elements, but about surviving each other, where players can work together to create and shape civilization or to watch it crumble. A world open to any idea, manifesto or philosophy, created by the players. We hope to push minecraft to it’s fullest potential in order to foster discussion, experimentation and community building. This is the great pastime and challenge of mankind: Civilization.
Three months ago, I decided to start start an Anarcho-Capitalist Minecraft server without any particular goal in mind. It was fascinating to build a society so that we weren't just talking about these ideas, but actually implementing them. We quickly found that the allure of this civilization building appealed to those of other persuasions as well. The Libertarian socailists made things even more interesting, with two societies simultaneously evolving and competing. We also quickly discovered that cooperation on the level that a civilization encourages nearly immediately got us to a Utopian state, as the prices of goods dropped incredibly low through automation and cooperation. The politics had made things interesting, and the lack of scarcity had made things boring. We needed to make it more interesting.
And from that desire, Civcraft was born. For the past month, we have been meticulously coding, designing, and testing modifications and changes to the game that will create a better simulation, in which cooperation is a requirement for survival.
We want to create a whole new platform for debate and community, where debates are carried out not just with words, but with actions, and consequences. We plan to invite every major political subreddit to join us, so that the conflicting societies will spark amusement, debate, and maybe even cooperation.
Since the beginning, we have been inundated with offers to help pay for the server that where thankfully unnecessary. Hexapus has been kind enough to provide us with a dedicated server and an incredible gigabit connection for free. For a project the scale of Civcraft, though, we are hoping to draw hundreds of simultaneous players. The current hardware just doesn't cut it.
We are looking to raise $800 to upgrade our server hardware to handle 200+ players simultaneously.
We have partnered with Rational Apparel, a clothing company owned by one of our regular players, to give a free shirt of your choice to anyone who supports the server with $50 or more. Paying by credit card will be processed using the Google Checkout and Paypal links in the sidebar.

Be advised that due to the anonymous nature of Bitcoin, if you wish to receive your shirt you will need to jump through some hoops. When you send coins, type a random string of decimals at the end. For example, if you wanted to pay with 5 btc, send 5.0012345. It does not matter how small the decimal is, just that its not easily guessable. Send me a PM on reddit the amount before you send the transaction. This will allow me to confirm that you are in fact the instigator.
Thank you very much for your help, support, and, as always, for your time.
